Sound on Sound’s Will Betts stopped by MXL’s booth at Summer NAMM 2016 when the DX-2 was being shown to the public for the very first time.
As Scott from MXL explains, what sets this mic apart from all other mics on the market is that is the world’s first dual-capsule dynamic microphone. And you don’t have to open it to swap capsule, as it is born with both capsules. And best of all, you can blend between them to tailor your sound just the way you like.
Even though you could use this mic for various recording applications, it is designed with capturing guitar cabinets or combos in mind. The flat side makes sure it stays in the right place when you hang it over the cab and the capsules are aligned precisely to avoid any phase cancellation or other time-related issues in case you use the blend/crossover feature and want both capsules to pick up sound at the same time.
